07.07.07

July 10th, 2007

The date in the heading will be one to remember for me. On July 7th, 2007 I asked my girlfriend, Marianne, to marry me. The answer was YES!!

I’ve been thinking about asking her for a few months now, but I didn’t find the courage to do it until now. We’ve been living together for two years now, and I really thought it was time to take the relationship to the next level. Hopefully we will be husband and wife next summer. We’ve been talking about getting married on the date 08.08.08.

It’s great to have easy to remember dates, don’t you think guys? :-)

Downtime

July 9th, 2007

A couple of days ago my laptop died. Because of that, I haven’t been able to keep up the posting frequency for the last few days. I have been able to repair one of my older stationary computers, so that will have to do for now. Until I get my laptop repaired (a new motherboard is ordered, so it shouldn’t be too long), I will keep the blog updated from this one.

More free eBooks and articles will be added soon.

Judging by the amount of comments Ja Kel Daily gets, it looks like it is a lot of activity going on there around the clock.

Comment-function is back

June 27th, 2007

Tha comment-function was down for about two hours today, but I’ve managed to get it up and running again.

I had to reinstall wordpress. Looks like a plugin gave me some unforseen problems.

In his latest post Steve writes about 10 Weaknesses of Human Intelligence. You’ll have to read it to understand my following statements about computer intelligence.

1. Unable to understand anything but zeroes and ones.
No matter how intelligent a computer might seem, it would be a good idea to remember that it is not really intelligent in any way shape or form.

2. Unable to comfort you when you have a bad day.
Though you may actually feel comforted by using the computer in certain ways it is really not the computers intention for you to feel better.

3. Gets outdated quickly.
Computers need to be updated regularly to be acceptable for us to use. After a few years it is very likely that it will not be able to run the latest software.

4. It needs to be told what to do.
A computer can not function on its own. Someone need to tell it exactly what to do, and when to do it. It is limited by its programing.

5. No feelings.
A computer can not show emotions. It could be programmed to show something that could look like emotions, but its just zeroes and ones.

6. Limited sensory input.
Its input channels is restricted to two numbers. You guessed it: Zeroes and ones :-)

7. No moral.
A computer can be used for anything you would like to use it for. Bank robbery, cheating, harassment and so on. It will not tell anyone what you do. There is no difference between right and wrong.

8. Unreliable hardware.
It is only a matter of time before a critical component suffers an irreparable crash. It would be a good idea to make backups of all data you do not want to loose.

9. Not able to repair it self.
If a computer get “sick” (viruses, worms etc.), it will not get well by just waiting for it. Someone has to fix it. There is no such thing as: “It’s just a cold”.

10. No soul.
A computer does have a soul, and will not join you in the afterlife. No matter how good friends you have been. If it stops working, that’s really the end for it.

If you visit this blog today you might experience some sudden shifts of themes. This blog is still so new, and I have still not made a final decision regarding wich theme will fit the best. If you know about a theme you think I should try out, please leave a comment and I will take it into consideration :-)

No place like home

June 10th, 2007

I don’t know how it is where you live, but here in Norway we have very strange weather these days. Norway is normally a pretty cold country, but the last week the temperature has been as high as 30 degrees celsius (86 degrees fahrenheit). It is an all time record! I have spend a lot of the weekend soaked under water. This kind of weather is exactly what we norwegians look for when we choose our destinations during the holidays. We flee south to countries like Spain, Italy and Greece. If this weather continues I can’t really see a good reason to do that this year. After all, there is no place like home!

Feel free to leave a comment on where you live and if you are experiencing unusual weather phenomenon there as well.
